Gravenhurst Against Poverty (GAP) is a community powered organization addressing the needs of our neighbours facing poverty. GAP offers meals, food hampers, transportation, and wellness programs to adults and youth. The more than 300 volunteers, many supportive local businesses, foundations and the community at large are united through GAP to envision a future where every neighbour of our community can thrive with dignity and opportunity. Neighbours are those receiving help, volunteering, or giving. We are all a part of building community wholeness.
Community Impact
Our Pillars of Service
Food
Programs
The Food Programs at GAP support individuals and families struggling with food insecurity. Meals with a focus on nutrition and fresh produce are distributed through weekly community meals, food hampers and deliveries. GAP serves hundreds of neighbours each week to address immediate needs and also lessen the challenges for our neighbours living in poverty.
Wellness
Programs
GAP focuses on nurturing mental, emotional, and social well-being within the community. Through programs like drop-in social activities, youth wellness initiatives, and creative outlets such as the Art Drop-In, GAP provides a safe and welcoming space for neighbours to connect, learn, and grow. These programs aim to reduce isolation, build supportive networks, and empower individuals.
Transportation
Program
We provide accessible and reliable transportation services to individuals and families facing barriers getting to essential destinations. Whether it’s getting to medical appointments, grocery stores, or community activities, GAP ensures mobility access to vital services. This support alleviates daily challenges and helps foster independence.
